“The Incident” Rough Cut – Feedback Request

https://app.frame.io/f/9GQK1h2a

Hello, $25+ Patrons!

We’re trying something new today—linked above is the first rough cut for “The Incident”, currently Episode 5 of The Gamers: The Series. For those of you who don’t mind spoilers, we would love to hear your feedback on what does and doesn’t work in this cut.

When we cut together an episode, we start with story structure. That’s where this one is now. Once we’ve settled on exactly what the cuts and shots are, in exactly the right order, it then goes out to our composer, our sound team, visual effects, and the color team (who makes the flat footage look cinematic).

So what you’ll experience at this stage of the process is bad (or missing) audio, weird silent beats where music should go, muddy-looking footage, and none of the sound effects that sell moments of violence. What you will find is the story.

We know that this episode is highly dependent on a knowledge of existing Gamers mythology. What we don’t know is how much we need to telegraph or explain—like with flashbacks to three prior movies—and how much will be obvious to core fans.

The other four episodes of Season 0? Those are designed to play to general audiences and reintroduce Newmoon, Nimble, Magellan, and Rogar. But core fans are the audience for this particular episode.

So what feedback are we looking for?

  • What makes sense?
  • What’s confusing?
  • Where do jokes fall flat?
  • Do we need more or less flashback footage?

We’re not looking for feedback about sound or picture. Those will be awesome and we’ll tackle them once we’ve “locked” this edit, thanks to your thoughts and input.
