ITS HERE ITS HERE MAYHEM 2012

MAY-HEM 2012!

What time is it? It’s time for the first annual MAY-HEM!

Have you ever wondered who would win in a fight between characters in the DG

and ZOE universes? Of course not. No sane person would. But Zoe says we need

more content on the site and assigned Matt the task of coming up with something

awesome we could do ultra cheap. Matt flippantly suggested we just shove all

our characters in a room and let them fight their way out, and Zoe, who…

The Birth of the Childe Buhmann

The sky was pale on blue that night of March. Jessica and Carlton had spent the last three nights hiking the Bungle Mungle National Forest before the rain had come, washing away their dusty game trails and filling the mountain cuts one by one up with water. The water rose with such a rapid course that J and C soon found themselves edging along the cliff faces with the mountain goats, heading for the peak and safety from oncoming flood. It was here, at 32,678…

Con Jobs

It's not quite Con Season, where it'll seem like there is a con every weekend, but here in Seattle, Emerald City Comicon, Sakura Con, and Norwescon happen in the span of two weeks, so it can feel like a warmup for what is to come.

We rocked the house at ECCC this year, representing on three panels, Women in Webseries (featuring Trin Miller, Kat Ogden, and Jen Page), the ZOE Premierathon, where we debuted new JQ2…

What the GOLD crew did on their Spring Vacation

ZOE friends: this spring I and the rest of the GOLD team have been working on an independent film/webseries project called "Alice and the Monster" with a bunch of other talented artists. It's a romantic story about a woman diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, told with equal parts tenderness and humor. Not exactly typical nerd fare, but my character (the male romantic lead) is a huge nerd, and David H. Lawrence XVII (from Heroes) plays a large role, so we're at least geek-adjacent in this…

Keeter's Rant

(...and at Rage Fest Infinity On)

KEETER: Alright listen up!  I am sick, and tired of.  Somebody get me a blanket and some NyQuil.  Throw in a warm stone massage and call me a cooked goose.  Cause why isn't anybody taking me on vacations anymore?  I used to have Aunts and Uncles- VACATION CITY!  Right now I'm living in NO-VACATION-TOWN and the locals are getting shifty.  Here's what I'm gonna do.  Go on down to the Bus Stop Bus Shop, and get myself a ticket.  A TICKET GOING-…

Begining

A few weeks ago I was cast out into the world to begin fending for myself. I am now working to putting my own production company together which feels like a huge lie because it is just me and a couple of cameras.

But we must all start somewhere and while I try to find clients I am also working toward the dream of finally working on my own movies. That is what I have always wanted to do and now more than ever we know that it can be done.

So I'm putting pen to paper,…

These are the Delays of our Lives (2nd 'Hamlet' Trailer Announcement)

(And at the 'Hamlet' Press Room...)

GABE: I'm gonna start hard, and deliberate: The online posting of 'Hamlet' is at the moment being delayed.

(Crowd hubub)

GABE: Yes, yes we know.  And believe us, we are also terribly broken up about amount of time this is all taking-

KEETER: (under breath.) Not.

GABE: -but an interesting opportunity has arisen. An opportunity we feel we cannot back down from.  And so for the time being, secrecy is our friend, and more…

The Spiderweb

Alternative title: Stuff we do when we're not ZOEing.

So I directed this play. If you're in the greater Seattle area, there are still tickets left for Saturday and Sunday.

Honestly the plug is secondary to the purpose of this article. I have been thinking about how intertwined so much of our work is, even outside of our ZOE/DG projects, although certainly it's as likely as not because of the ZOE/DG projects.…

Full Circle

I would like to thank Hulu for beating me to metaphorical death with constant adverts for JourneyQuest Season 1; I mayn't otherwise have succumbed to the siren song of this epic tale, nor otherwise have discovered Zombie Orpheus Entertainment. ZOE further enthralled me with a plethora of new shows and a bevy of creative and talented folks, and led to my current insinuation with the prolific literocity of  R.L. McSterlingthong (this blog is your fault, you know...). I have been invited not…

Tony Becerra Q&A

Rarely seen in public, the shadowy figure known as Tony Becerra worked on JourneyQuest Season One in addition to having worked with Ben Dobyns on a number of projects. As I understand it, he is a master of what he does, organizing, planning, scheduling, monitoring, and supervising. We were lucky enough that he took a few minutes out of his near-frantic JQ Season Two prep to answer some questions from Beau and our fans.

Beau: Tony, what is your exact…

Details and Tweaks

Yesterday at about 3:00 PM, we set the computer on the task of doing the first mix down of Hamlet.  We waited.  On our meager equipment it took the better part of four hours to compress.  At about 7:30- we saw it for the first time.  Full sound.  Full screen.

And we took notes. Of course.

It's amazing how 3db too loud on a sound clip of a drink being poured can pull you so far out of the action.  How half a second trimmed between shots can make the Queens movement…

This Is How We Do It

Hey everyone, I'll have some more preproduction stuff to answer your excellent questions and requests soon, it requires some homework. In the meantime, for those of you who didn't see and/or follow the link, here is a piece we created for FilmCourage on how ZOE has done what it has done with JourneyQuest, a successful Kickstarter, etc.

THE STORY OF OUR SUCCESS

There are days when what you love pains you. There are days when the ideas won’t come, the…
